Designdevelopment for Magis | 2011
The production of monobloc plastic chairs inevitably results in a large number of defective pieces – for example, from the transition between a colour change. In general, defective chairs are disposed of. However, with the company Magis, we developed an idea to design “outfits”, which we named SPACECOATS, for their monobloc plastic chairs such as “Air Chair”, “Easy Chair” and “Flower”. The defective chairs can be fitted with these SPACECOATS, thereby avoiding the dump and getting a chance at a second life. The SPACECOATS are made of electric welded fabrics and a sandwich material of fabrics and foam. The result is light modern upholstered furniture which breaks with the traditional methods of upholstery.

Bei der Herstellung von Monoblock-Plastikstühlen fällt eine größere Anzahl von Ausschuss-Exemplaren an – zum Beispiel beim Farbwechsel. Die Ausschuss-Stühle werden in der Regel entsorgt. Für die Firma Magis entwickelten wir “Bekleidung” mit dem Namen SPACECOATS für deren Monoblock-Plastikstühle wie zum Beispiel den “Air Chair”, den “Easy Chair” und für “Flower”. Die Ausschuss-Stühle können mit den SPACECOATS bekleidet und so vor der vorzeitigen Entsorgung bewahrt werden. Die SPACECOATS sind aus elektroverschweißtem, dreilagigem Material. Das Ergebnis sind leichte, moderne Polsterobjekte, die mit den traditionellen Polstermethoden brechen.
